The post office is considering relocating its retail operation from East Third Street in downtown out to the Industrial Park location south of Philip.

The difference is about two miles.

The post office would save $190,000 per year in rent plus additional dollars in time and preparation of mail and transportation between the two offices. The post office would save $1 million in the first seven years and an additional $1 million every five years thereafter.

Some downtown businesses think the closure would be a blow to downtown since the post office attracts a regular stream of consumers every day. They say if the post office goes to the southeast part of town, so will consumers.

What do you think, should the post office move?

Yes. The inconvenience is worth the multi-million dollar savings. 534 37%
No. I use the downtown post office all of the time, and the potential damage to downtown businesses is too great. 509 35%
  I don't care. I use the Internet. 419 29%
