William  H.  Woods
     William “Bill” H. Woods, 96, born in North Platte April 3, 1917 died in his sleep at his home in La Mesa, Calif. on Saturday, June 22, 2013.
     Bill was a graduate of North Platte class of 1935. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II. Bill retired from the Navy in 1958 after 23 years.
     He made his home in the San Diego, Calif. area.
     Bill made a real effort to come back to North Platte to visit his mother, family and many classmates. He enjoyed hunting geese in the winter with his brother, Harry.
     For many years, the North Platte people who lived in California would gather in Long Beach, Calif. for the “North Platte Picnic.” Bill was the chairman of this event for more than 10 years.
     He is survived by nephew, James Ellis Jr. of Ohio and three nieces, Pat Ellis Gosselin of St. Cloud, Fla., Harriette Woods Luttrell of Sunrise Beach, Mo. and Deb Woods-Wingett of North Platte.
     Bill was buried at Miramar National Cemetery in California.
