Mary Elizabeth “Liz” (Young) Ridder, 77, formerly of North Platte, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at St. Elizabeth''s Hospital in Lincoln, Neb., with all four of her children at her bedside.
Liz was born May 30, 1936, in Callaway, Neb., to Dr. Albert Theodore and “Minnie” Margaret (Brosius) Ridder. Her family moved to North Platte and she graduated from St. Patrick''s High School in 1954.
Liz graduated from Creighton University in 1957 as a registered nurse. She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln as a surgical nurse.
She married Dr. Martin E. Young in 1958. They moved to North Platte in 1963 where she was a devoted mother, raising her family of four children. Liz worked at Great Plains Regional Medical Center as a RN Case Manager in Home Health and Hospice and was a surgical nurse.
She was a member of the St. Patrick''s Alter Society, the North Platte Art Study League, volunteer for the St. Patrick''s Bargain Bin and was a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader for her daughters.
Liz had a strong faith in our Lord. Her faith and prayers were prevalent in her life. She enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, Neil Diamond songs, art, sewing, cooking, playing bridge and spending time with her grandchildren and her little dog Maggie. She will always be loved, cherished, and greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Tom Klein) Young of Lincoln, Julie (Randy) Mroczek of North Platte, Dr. Mark Young and Jill Young of Omaha and Dr. Michael (Amy) Young of Omaha; four grandchildren, Matt, Megan and Katie Mroczek and Amanda Young.
She was preceded in death by Dr. Martin Young; and her parents Dr. Albert and “Minnie” Ridder.
Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Catholic School Endowment.
Christian Wake Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at St. Patrick''s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Golka officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
