Robert Wendell Coons, 73, of North Platte, passed away July 17 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 8, 1938 to Ray and Etta Jane Goodro in Mitchell, NE. Robert was adopted by Cecil and Ada Coons at the age of eight and was raised in the Sandhills of Nebraska.
Bob graduated from Hyannis High School in 1957 and then attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln on a music scholarship.
On June 6, 1959 Bob married Francis Kay Applegarth. To this union 7 children were born. Roberta Coons Mendoza, Rhonda Arledge, Cecil Coons, Rosalie Rozmiarek, Roxann Macon and Robert Coons: 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Bob remarried March 1, 1980 to LeEtta Kohl in North Platte, adding 2 children, Pam Alvarado and Leonda Shepherd-Steele, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren to the family.
Survivors include his wife, LeEtta Coons of North Platte; children, Roberta (Arnulfo) Mendoza of Kansas City, Rhonda (William) Arledge of Fairfield, OH, Cecil (Pam) Coons of Mullen, Rosalie (Kenneth) Rozmariek of Norfolk, Roxann Macon of Athens, TN, Robert (Joy) Coons of Hershey, Pam (Bobby) Alvarado of North Platte, and Leonda (special friend, Jim) Shepherd-Steele of North Platte; grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Salisbury, Dustin Salisbury, Alex Arledge, Kayla (Jeff) Lien, Cassandra (Aaron) Chessmore, Cecilia Coons, Joseph Rozmariek, Daniel (special friend, Kim) Macon II, Monica (special friend, James) Macon, Tierney Coons, Catherine Nichols, Christopher Nichols, Ashlee Pierce, Krystal (special friend, Derek) Smith and Kent (special friend, Anna) Smith.
Robert was preceded in death by his biological parents, Ray & Etta Jane Goodro; his adopted parents, Cecil and Ada Coons; a son, William Stanley (Billy) Coons; a step-daughter, Marla Shepherd; and a son-in-law, Daniel Macon.

Services were at 9 a.m., Thursday July 19 at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Tom Wiles officiating. Burial will be at the North Platte Cemetery. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
