After graduation Edgar moved to Bend, OR where he worked in a saw mill. On October 11, 1942 Edgar married Elsie Fablinger of Gandy. In 1943 he was inducted into the Army and was a member of the 124th Cavalry. He was later transferred to Infantry in the position of driver and served in France and Germany. After his discharge Edgar and Elsie moved back to Gandy where they raised their four daughters. Edgar did some ranch work, farming and road construction. He soon found his niche in carpentry and building construction.
Edgar served as superintendent of the Logan County Noxious Weed Control Board and was a Logan County Selective Service Officer. For years he was the Sunday school superintendent at Gandy Methodist Church and later an elder in the Stapleton Presbyterian Church.
