Howard R. Brown, 87, of North Platte, formerly of Paxton, passed away May 15 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. He was born January 11, 1925 in Ogallala to Dewey and Isa (McVay) Brown. He grew up and attended school in Ogallala. On March 1, 1944 he married Geneva Ott in North Platte. To this union three daughters were born. From 1944 to 1946 Howard served in the Army. The couple resided on several bases in the States until he was stationed in Hawaii. He was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. They made their home in Ogallala until moving to the Arthur area in 1950. In 1962 they moved to the Birdwood Ranch north of Paxton. In 1978 they moved into Paxton and then to North Platte in 2007. Howard enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He hunted, fished, played baseball, worked with cattle and horses, and loved just looking over the land and watching the grass grow. He always liked a good story and could be counted on to tell one. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks and the Masonic Lodge of Hyannis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva in Sept of 2011; his parents; a brother, Edward and a sister Verna Mell. Survivors include daughters, Marlene (Ron) Rowlette and Christine Bobo both of North Platte, and Renee (Doug) Fleecs of Greeley, CO; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Nate) Settles, Darren Rowlette, Matthew Bobo, Sara Bobo, Amanda (Chris) Porter, Emily (Caleb) Wilson, Mitchell Fleecs and Jacob Fleecs; two great-grandchildren, Austin Settles and Ainsley Porter; also baby Wilson on the way. The family chose cremation. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorials are suggested to the Miller-Hankins Legion Post #303 in Paxton. Memorial graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 25 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
