The board of directors of NCORPE will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the Curtis Community Center. The Curtis Community Center is at 201 Garlick Ave.
NCORPE stands for the Nebraska Cooperative Republican Platte Enhancement project -- a 20,000-acre operation in southern Lincoln County that pumps water from the underground aquifer toward the Republican River to comply with an interstate agreement with Kansas over the amount of water in the Republican.
Also, a pipeline is currently being buried to pump water from the NCORPE farm into the Platte River, which could start carrying water this fall.
The controversial NCORPE project has taken the farm land off the property tax rolls, under a provision of state law that exempts government projects from paying taxes.
Also, some farm and residential wells near the NCORPE project are seeing a marked decline in water level.
And, the board of directors has asked for proposals to develop a wind generating farm on the land.
Adding to the controversies, NCORPE does not publish advance notice of its meetings in newspapers of general circulation. A bill has been introduced in the Legislature that would require them to do so. That bill could be debated on the floor in the next session, which begins in early January.
