The Prairie Arts Center is excited to announce the opening of a new exhibit, Bridges: Sharing Our Past to Enrich the Future.

Endorsed by the Nebraska 150 Commission as a signature event, the Hildegard Center for the Arts, in collaboration with the Nebraska Tourism Commission and the Nebraska State Historical Society, issued a call to both amateur and professional photographers to capture images of historic sites or hidden treasures from all 93 Nebraska counties.

Photographers were invited to share photos of community or personal significance to tell Nebraska’s story.

More than 800 photos were submitted.

“Being a part of this project from start to finish, we’ve learned so much about the state,” said Hildegard President Kim Einspahr. “The history and stories that come from these images really showcase how diverse Nebraska is.”

The winning photos in this exhibit promise to link history, generations and cultures across Nebraska.

We’re excited to host this exhibit because it shares the artistic beauty of Nebraska. The show will be at the Prairie Arts Center until Sept. 21.

Please join us for a reception for the new exhibit which will take place Saturday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with a "Gallery Talk" at noon from representatives from the Hildegard Art Center.

Judges, photographers and artists will be present to talk about their photographs, the program and the vision behind the show.

Also, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, Omaha World Herald newswriter David Hendee will be at the Prairie Arts Center to sign his book Nebraska 150 years told through 93 counties.

Hendee's book, on sale at the Arts Center, brings the state's history to life with a fascinating look at the 93 counties.

The rest of the Bridges exhibit schedule:

• North Platte Prairie Arts Center: Aug. 1–Sept. 21

• Norfolk Art Center: Sept. 7–Oct. 26

• Carnegie Arts Center in Alliance: Sept. 26–Nov. 10

• Durham Museum in Omaha: Nov. 24–Jan. 7

All non-winning submissions have been organized into an online virtual gallery, to access this gallery go to www.hildegardcenter.org.
