A loader smooths the ground after the old library parking lot was removed Monday afternoon.
The North Platte Public Library closed Monday for 10 days of repairs, cleaning and upgrades. It didn’t take long for a crew from Steele’s Construction to tear out the parking lot in preparation for new pavement.
During the 10-day closure, the staff will inventory the entire collection of books and other items, in addition to doing a variety of housekeeping”and maintenance activities, spokeswoman Terry Johnson said.
Carpet squares will be replaced and/or shifted; painting touched up, the main circulation desk will get a new top and everything will get a deep cleaning.
It has been 10 years since the last closure for renovations.
Due dates have been extended to Aug. 3 and later, so no items will be due during this time. For example, a movie checked out July 22 will be due Aug. 3 instead of July 29.
The staff will answer telephone calls, but library items and computers will not be available.
The library expects their eResources, such as Freegal Music, Overdrive elibrary, and auto repair, consumer reports and other online services to be available via home computers and mobile devices during the closure.
