State changes dates when road ditches should be mowedTell North Platte what you think

A bill aimed to encourage wildlife habitat growth and fight soil erosion was passed by the Legislature May 8.

LB 584, introduced by Henderson Sen. Curt Friesen, prohibits counties and townships from mowing ditches before July 1 each year.

Landowners continue to be required by state law to mow roads and drainage ditches at least twice annually, but the new law says mowing should be done in July and September instead of the former requirements -- before July 15 and sometime in August.

The bill passed on a 48-0 vote.
