Bulldogs shutout ColumbusTell North Platte what you think

COLUMBUS-After going winless in 2013, the North Platte High School football team kicked off the season on Friday with a 34-0 win over Columbus at Pawnee Park.

The Bulldogs scored their first touchdown on a pass from Shane Mauch to Jacob Zimbelman in the first quarter. Then early in the second quarter, Mauch threw a touchdown pass to Jobie Loving to make it 14-0.

The next two scores came from sophomore kicker Kort Steele. Steele kicked a field goal late in the first half to give North Platte a 17-0 lead. Then after halftime, Steele hit a kick from 50 yards that bounced off the crossbar and in to make it 20-0.

The Dawgs scored two more touchdowns, which were both passes from Mauch to Cameron Cox, to finish the scoring.

On Sept. 5, NPHS will attempt to make it 2-0 when they play Lincoln High at Bauer Field.
