A 17-year-old Maywood woman was hospitalized Saturday morning after a violent collision at the intersection of State Farm Road and U.S. Highway 83.

Tori Vandreimmelen, 17, was heading south in a 1991 Olds Cutlass. She told police that she looked down at her speedometer and when she looked up, the light changed from yellow to red. She couldn’t stop in time to avoid hitting a pickup in the intersection.

Joshua Cosler, 32, of North Platte was driving the pickup eastbound on State Farm Road.

Vandreimmelen hit Cosler’s driver’s side and his 1990 Chevy pickup was totaled.

Vandreimmelen sustained visible but not disabling injury to her knee/lower leg. Both drivers were wearing seat restraints, according to the police report.

The Cutlass Vandreimmelen was driving sustained an estimated $4,500 in damages. The accident happened at 9:48 a.m., police said.
