Scammers are calling people to tell them that their Windows computer program needs to be updated, and then they try to get personal financial information.

The Ogallala police department recently reported this complaint:

"I received a call from a number at 11 a.m. (Aug. 16) from someone wanting to fix my Windows computer remotely. The number the call came from was 469-555-0133. Just to make you aware this is going around again."

Arlene Young of North Platte called the Bulletin Aug. 19 to report she’d had the same phone call. The caller told Young she had to update her Windows program and would be glad to help her. The caller just needed her address, social security number and other identification.

Young said the call came from 989-296-3868. She called the telephone company and asked them to identify the number, but the phone company could not.

Be careful.
