Dead body identified near McDonald's (UPDATED)Tell North Platte what you think

The body that North Platte police found Sunday evening was an Oregon man. He was in a van parked in North Platte, just east of the McDonald's Restaurant on S. Dewey.

Police spokesman Rodney Brown said officers responded at 8:28 p.m. Sunday to the vacant lot east of McDonald’s (1313 S. Dewey) to check out a report of an unconscious man in a van.

When police arrived, they found some doors open on the van and the deceased man inside, within a couple blocks of the busy one-way street. Brown said the man apparently was living in the van.

The man was identified as Mitchell William Freeman, 57, with a last known address of Roseberg, Ore, Brown said Wednesday.

A police investigator contacted family members in Helena, Mont., who said they had voiced concerns to Freeman about his declining health.

The death was from natural causes, Brown said.
