Christopher A. Taylor
Around 8 p.m. Thursday, a North Platte man who was charged Wednesday with sexual assault of a child tried to hang himself in the Lincoln County Jail.
Christopher Taylor, 43, was unconscious when officer found him. He was taken by ambulance to Great Plains Health medical center, where he remained in intensive care late Friday morning.
Police spokesman John Deal said the North Platte police are investigating the attempted suicide.
Because the attempt was make while Taylor was in the custody of the Lincoln County sheriff's office and jail, investigation by an outside agency lessens the chance that foul play or negligence on the part of detention officers would be undetected.
No further details are available at this time, Deal said Friday morning.
Taylor was arrested after police went to the 2200 block of West 17th and talked to the alleged victim and her mother, who said Taylor sexually assaulted the girl on Tuesday. The girl reportedly did not consent, Deal said Thursday.
The girl was further interviewed at the Bridge of Hope, where it was determined that probable cause of guilt existed to charge Taylor for sexual assault of a child.
Deal said Taylor was the mother's boyfriend.
