Mail: Gas is too highTell North Platte what you think

I was talking to a friend the other day about his job as a traveling salesman, which takes him all over the state.

He buys a new truck about every year and a half or so from one or two local dealers and gets all his service and preventative maintenance done at this dealership.

Also, he and his wife shop and make all major purchases from local merchants.

I was astonished to learn that he drives around 60,000 miles annually. He whipped out his calculator and quickly did the math (on how much he spends on gas), using today's gas prices as an average. He spends approximately $14,500 a year on gas alone.

Of this amount, he only spends about $2,000 here in town for gas. Why would a good citizen and conscientious shopper do this? Because gas is too damn expensive in North Platte.

His bottom line is compromised by his expenses and if he doesn't shop around, at the end of the day he has fewer dollars.

So, the highest gas prices in Nebraska sends yet another consumer down I-80 searching for some sanity in this world of greed.
