Christopher A. Taylor
A North Platte was charged Wednesday with first-degree sexual assualt of a child.
Police spokesman John Deal said the investigation began Wednesday because of a complaint that a girl under the age of 16 was sexually penetrated.
Police went to the 2200 block of West 17th and talked to the alleged victim and her mother, who said the mother's boyfriend, Christopher Taylor, sexually assaulted the girl on Tuesday. The girl reportedly did not consent, Deal said.
The girl was further interviewed at the Bridge of Hope, where it was determined that probable cause of guilt existed to charge Taylor for sexual assault of a child.
Taylor, 43, was put in jail Wednesday and appeared in court Thursday.
Lincoln County Judge Michael Piccolo told Taylor that he faced up to 15 years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender if he is convicted.
Deputy County Attorney Jennifer Clements requested bond be set at 10 percent of $500,000. Piccolo agreed.
"Is there any way I can get a lower bond? I couldn't come up with that much in my life," Taylor said.
Piccolo advised him to talk to his court appointed attorney and said bond could be discussed again at his next hearing, which is set for Aug. 7.
