The Nebraska Department of Labor is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska National Guard and other sponsors to offer a Hiring Our Heroes Fair for veterans and spouses Tuesday, Aug. 5 at the Sandhills Convention Center in North Platte.
The Sandhills Convention Center/Quality Inn and Suites is at 2102 S. Jeffers. The hiring fair will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an employment workshop at 8:30 a.m.
"All across the state, employers continue to present a wide range of career opportunities to Nebraska veterans," said John H. Albin, Acting Commissioner of Labor. "Many of these employers have attended numerous Hiring Our Heroes fairs, while the events also continue to attract new employers."
Veterans and spouses can register for free for the fair and workshop at hiringourheroes.org. Walk-ins are welcome.
The workshop will focus on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military skill translation and interviewing.
This is the 14th Hiring Our Heroes fair to be held in Nebraska. Hiring fairs have also been held in Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, Alliance, Holdrege, Papillion, Beatrice, and Grand Island.
The hiring fair is being conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs, the Nebraska Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), the Nebraska Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the American Legion, Goodwill Industries International, NBC News, and other local partners.
