Police arrest second shoplifting suspectTell North Platte what you think

Harley Smith was arrested Thursday and charged with helping Kevin Mendonca try to life a shopping cart full of merchandise from the Wal-Mart Super Center.

Employees told police that the two men were being watched while they shopped. The men allegedly filled up a shopping cart and went out the doors without paying.

An employee stopped them outside and asked for a receipt. The men took off running.

An investigating officer watched surveillance video and identified the men as Kevin Mendonca, 21, and Harley Smith, 20.  Mendonca was arrested on Tuesday, and two days later, police found Smith and charged him too.

The value of the merchandise in the cart was more than $500, so the charge is felony, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.
