Kearney pounded North Platte 25-3 on Sunday in the Area 7 Seniors District Tournament at Bill Wood Field.
North Platte (31-18) will play Hastings (26-17) in an elimination game on Monday for the right to go to the state tournament.
Kearney (29-18) opened the game by scoring three runs off of pitcher Riley Vieyra in the first inning. North Platte came back and scored one run in the bottom of the first when Drew Callaghan reached on a throwing error by third baseman Dakota Schriner.
Both teams held each other scoreless in the second inning and in the third inning, Kearney put the hurt to the First Nationals by scoring 15 runs. Breyden Eckhout scored six of those with a grand slam and then a two-run home run later.
Callaghan relieved Vieyra and only got one out in the third before Ty Brockmoller replaced him. Brockmoller finished the game.
Against Hastings on Monday, North Platte will likely start Dalton Pflughaupt. The First Nationals still have a host of other pitchers available, which could be a major advantage for them, as Hastings will be playing on the fourth consecutive day.
