Law Enforcement agencies, the Fire Department and others will have equipment on display at the National Night Out gathering from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Cody Park in North Platte. A substance abuse prevention scavenger hunt is planned, with chances to win prizes, earn ride tickets and ice cream cone tickets.
Nebraskaland National Bank, West Central District Health Department, Pepsi, Kwik Stop, the Walmart DC and other sponsors will provide free meals for families.
Students will have a chance to drop their principal in the dunk tank.
Parents, adults and youth will be challenged to BE THE WALL™, a strategy to help community members slowly begin to stand up and take responsibility for youth behaviors related to tobacco, alcohol and other drug use.
When it comes to youth choosing to use tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, members of our community should feel confident, comfortable and have the tools they need to take a stand, be firm, be clear, be consistent, to "Be the Wall" between youth and tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
The end goal is to accomplish long-term positive change for the community because youth use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs in not inevitable.
