In another close game with Ogallala on Friday, Alex Harms brought in the winning run in the sixth inning as North Platte won 3-2 at Bill Wood Field.
"For whatever reason, our games against Ogallala come down to someone getting one run and that ends up being the difference," North Platte coach Rick Ostergard said.
Alec Wesslund led off the first inning for North Platte (28-17) with a single into left field off of pitcher Cody Blackwell. Jack Kenny then laid down a bunt on the left side of the infield and Ogallala third baseman Austin Mack made a wild throw to allow Wesslund to score. Kenny then scored on a wild pitch by Blackwell and it was 2-0.
In the second inning, Ogallala scored its first run on a wild pitch by Marcus Silos. In the fifth inning, after Riley Vieyra relieved Silos, Colby Rezac tied the game with his two-out single to left.
In the sixth, Darian Allberry hit a one-out double to left-center. He turned out to be the winning run as Harms hit a ground ball into right and North Platte had the lead. That spelled the end for Blackwell as he was relieved by Justin Corfield, who got the last two outs with no further damage.
Vieyra then held Ogallala scoreless in the seventh as he only allowed one base hit.
"It was huge to have our guys get key hits," Ostergard said. "Both Corfield and Blackwell threw very well."
