A North Platte man was jailed Sunday, charged with assaulting two children as well as his domestic partner.
According to the police report, Genaro Rivas, 39, beat on the door of a house in the 800 block of W. 3rd around 1 a.m. Sunday.
Rivas was intoxicated and the family was too afraid to answer, police spokesman Rodney Brown said. Rivas finally forced his way into the home an hour later and assaulted two of the four children who lived there – a 10-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, Brown said.
The woman tried intervene and was also assaulted, Brown said. Also, another child, age 8, witnessed the violence.
Rivas was subsequently arrested and jailed, charged with two felony counts of child abuse as well as a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.
Brown said Rivas is accused of felony child abuse because he “knowingly and intentionally placed the two children in a situation that jeopardized their physical health, and/or he cruelly punished them but it did not result in serious bodily injury.”
