At 3:16 a.m. Saturday, deputies went to Wellfleet Lake to check out a reported stabbing.
Deputies arrived and found a disturbance near the boat ramp. A 19-year-old woman had multiple stab wounds, according to a sheriff’s statement.
A rescue team from Maywood was called and eventually took the victim to Great Plains Health in North Platte for treatment. Deputies found a suspect, Kristi Brossart, 49, of Wellfleet.
According to te sheriff’s report, interviews of all parties indicated that the two women argued, and Brossart pulled out a yellow knife and started swinging at the younger woman. After a short altercation, witnesses broke up the fight.
The suspected weapon was found in Brossart’s pants pocket, the sheriff said. She was arrested and taken to the Lincoln County jail wearing her housecoat.
She is charged with second degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the assault. The case is still under investigation.
The victim's wounds did not appear to be life threatening, according to the sheriff’s report.
In court Monday, Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull told her that by law, conviction on both counts would result in consecutive sentences.
All totaled, she faces a maximum of 70 years in prison and $25,000 in fines. Turnbull also said he could not lower the bond because she is accused of injuring someone in the alleged assault.
Brossart requested a court appointed attorney.
