Marty Bassett has resigned as superintendent of North Platte schools, School Board President Kathy Phares announced Thursday.
Phares said the North Platte School Board will formally accept his resignation at the next regular meeting of the board.
Phares said the board is "grateful for Mr. Bassett’s service to North Platte Public Schools and wish him well in his future endeavors."
The board of education will work diligently to fill this role with an Interim Superintendent for the upcoming, 2014-15 school year, Phares said.
"This will give the district the opportunity to continue moving forward with our mission in mind: Student Learning, Student Achievement, Student Success," she said.
"The board will begin searching for a full-time superintendent in coming months. Hiring a superintendent is one of the most important endeavors a board must face; therefore, this task will be approached with fervent attention to each vital detail necessary to ensure a rewarding and successful search," Phares said.
"It is the goal of the board to hire a quality administrator to continue to lead the district forward in the years to come," she said.
Bassett recently completed his second year at the North Platte superintendent of schools.
