After nearly 10 months in development, the city of North Platte’s new website is ready for test drives.

Designer Steve Maly presented the website to the council Tuesday. He encourages the public to try it out and let him know what else it might need.

The website has 240 pages of information now.

Surfers can get to it from the city’s existing plain-jane website, with few pictures. The new site features alternating photos at the top, plus videos from the visitor’s bureau and faces on the front page.

Maly said it will “go live” by July 15.

Maly is familiar with North Platte. He developed websites for Lincoln County, the Golden Spike, the visitor’s bureau and Nebraskaland Days.

The council authorized Maly to develop the site on Sept. 3. He predicted it would take about five months. Although it has taken 10 months, the project cost a little less that forecast.

Maly said he could do it for $14,860. On Tuesday he told the council the cost is $14,400. The city will also pay him $120 a month to host and maintain the site.

Qualified city employees will be able to edit pages, posting new and updated information when it is available.
