A sweeping metal sculpture – Sweet Bird of Paradise – by Mick Shimonek of Lemoyne has been named the best work in the Nebraskaland Days competitive art show.

Therewere 180 entries in the show from 49 artists.

Works of artists in 14 communities and two states are represented, organizer Sue Perez said.

Twenty-nine works received awards. The quality of work is exceptional and many of the works are for sale, Perez said.

The artwork is on display at the newly renovated Art and Gift Gallery every day until 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29.

Viewers can cast their ballot at the gallery for the people’s choice award, which will be presented at the end of the show.

Viewing hours are 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. through Saturday. The gallery opens at 11 a.m. Sunday and closes at 4 p.m.
