According to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s statement, Harris was ejected after her 2011 Chevy pickup swerved in and out of the road ditch and rolled.

Harris was westbound on Highway 23 approaching mile marker 61 when she lost control, the sheriff said. Her pickup swerved into the north ditch, returned to the highway and nearly went into the south ditch before crossing the road again and entering the north ditch.

The pickup rolled over at least once and Norris was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Seat restraints were not in use.

A reconstruction of the accident is underway, but it appears inattention was the cause, the sheriff said.

Harris was an accomplished seamstress, excellent cook and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, according to her obituary.

She is survived by her husband, Vern of Dickens; a son, Scott (Deborah) Harris of Dickens; two daughters, Diana (Gerry) Phelps of North Platte and Melinda (Dave) Poyourow of Rapid City; and a brother, Bill (Marilyn) Ogier of Alpine, AR; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wallace. Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. prior to the Rosary.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
