The North Platte First National Bank Juniors began the Junior-Senior tournament at Bill Wood Field with an 8-3 win over the Lincoln East B team on Thursday night.
North Platte (15-5) scored the first run with Kevin Hancock's one-out double to left field in the first inning. But East answered back in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. The two runs came when First National pitcher Braiden Ruffin walked Noah Cardwell and beaned Jared Vogt with the bases loaded.
The Nationals rallied with two outs in the third inning. Brendan Folk tied the game with an infield single. Then Kobe Lawrence hit a two-run double to left-center. Trev Chase then followed with a single up the middle to score Lawrence and make it 5-2.
That was all the run support Ruffin needed as he held the Spartans scoreless in the next three innings. The First Nationals added to their lead when Dominic Martinez singled to right-center on the payoff pitch with two outs. The bases were loaded and all three runners got a head start before they all scored and it became 8-2.
Caden Comer came in for Ruffin in the seventh and finished the game off by only allowing one run in the final inning.
The Juniors will play a doubleheader with Gretna at home on Saturday.
