The tournament was held June13-15.

In their first game, the Galaxy battled to a 1-1 tie against the Columbus Fusion. On Saturday afternoon, they let a 2-1 lead slip away as the Phoenix Futbol Club (PFC) from Omaha scored two unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes and won 3-2.

On Saturday evening, the Columbus team earned the No. 1 seed and a bye by defeating PFC 2-1.

On Sunday morning, North Platte avenged their loss by beating PFC 3-1, earning them another chance at Columbus.

The championship proved to be a defensive battle between two talented teams. Neither team scored in the first half.

The Galaxy hit pay dirt in the second half when Sami Mauch scored on a breakaway goal. Both teams had more chances to score but couldn't get their shots in the net.

Columbus made a late run in the final 10 minutes but was turned away by Galaxy goalie Leslie Borges, who made five saves. Mauch's goal proved to be the difference as the Galaxy held on to win 1-0.

The Galaxy have been successful this year. They won the York U14 girls' spring league to start the season. On Memorial weekend, they won the Stenger Invitational in Arvada, Colo. The following weekend they finished second at the Lincoln Cup tournament.

The team is coached by Jeff Hedgecock and Dan Elsten.

The Galaxy play their final tournament of the year July 18-20 at  Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Seven teams from the North Platte United Soccer club competed in the Kearney tournament. The North Platte teams and records:

U12 boys NP Surge 1-1-1
