A convicted felon voluntarily handed over a shotgun Friday to sheriff's deputies.

The situation started when sheriff’s deputies went to 3510 N. Range Road to serve a protection order and do some follow up investigating from an unspecified previous case, Chief Deputy Roland Kramer said.

They met Robert J. Love Jr., 41, at the house and served a protection order. The deputies had been tipped that Love might have a firearm and be a convicted felon. Deputies confirmed that Love was previously convicted of felony possession of methamphetamine in Colorado.

When Love was asked about possible guns, he gave the deputy an over-and-under shotgun from his bedroom. He was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and taken to the Lincoln County Detention Center.

Bond is set at $10,000.
