The annual pumpkin patch at the Spike starts with seeds; then the hope of rain, Spike Director Kirsten Parker said.

The girls watch their garden grow and tend the pumpkins, watering and weeding.

Plans are underway for fall harvest activities each week of October, including a petting zoo, family movie night, pumpkin art projects, hayrack rides, pumpkin catapulting and zombie paintball, Parker said.

Each weekend in October a different theme of activities will be featured, with one constant goal -- to sell pumpkins.

Parker said the players have a little contest. Each girl planted and will tend to a seed they hope will grow into the biggest pumpkin of the group. The largest pumpkins will be auctioned in October.
