W.F. 'Buffalo Bill' Cody

"Buffalo Bill’s Nebraska" will be presented by author Jeff Barnes at noon Thursday, June 19 at the North Platte Public Library.

This is a Nebraska Humanities Program. It is free to the public.

Barnes has given several historical programs at the library and all have been well received, library spokeswoman Terri Johnson said.

William F. Cody was born, raised, and died elsewhere, but he made his home in Nebraska, where the celebrity and legend of Buffalo Bill was born, Johnson said.

What happened in the Cornhusker State to create a man who was arguably the world’s first “superstar?”

Barnes tells the story of Cody in Nebraska, from his days as an Indian scout, a hunting guide to the rich and famous, the creator of “Buffalo Bill’s Wild West,” and his enduring legacy in the state, nation, and world.

His PowerPoint presentation shows many historic and contemporary photos and images, Johnson said.

Advance calls to the library are requested to reserve a seat at 308-535-8036.
