The storm cloud went through North Platte around 5:15 p.m., darkening the sky and sending the temperature plunging.

A wind gust of 85 miles-an-hour was recorded at the weather station near North Platte Regional Airport, the weather service said at 5:30 p.m. The storm reportedly dumped two inches of rain in about 30 minutes four miles northeast of Hershey. Scud clouds are very commonly found on the leading edge of a storm front, often moving faster than the storm clouds themselves.

A Bulletin reader reported 1.5 inches lof rain fell in 40 minutes near Third and Jeffers.
