Witnesses told police that they saw a man who was later identified as Juan Garcia punch a woman in the face.

The woman was Garcia’s girlfriend and she had minor visible injuries, Deal said.

Police determined that Garcia assaulted the woman and charged him with domestic assault. The charge was upgraded to a felony since he has prior convictions for domestic violence.

It is Garcia’s first arrest in Lincoln County, according to sheriff’s records, but his bond was set at $50,000.

Police were active during the Memorial Day weekend, investigating reports of assaults and alcohol violations.

Sandoval

On Sunday at 7:49 a.m., officers responded to 2400 West 16th to check out a report of a prior disturbance.

Investigators said Anthony Sandoval allegedly caused bodily injury to his live-in girlfriend and physically refused to let her to leave the home.

The woman’s hair was pulled and her neck injured, police investigator John Deal said. She eventually got away and called the police from another location.

Anthony was charged with false imprisonment and domestic assault.  His total bonds amount to $30,000.

Pettry

On Sunday at 1:35 p.m., an officer on patrol saw James Pettry sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot in the 700 block of East Philip.

The officer was aware of a warrant for Pettry’s arrest, so he pulled in. He walked up to Pettry, who was seated in the vehicle, and told him of the warrant.

Pettry made movements in that led the officer to believe he was concealing something., so Pettry was taken into custody and that area of the car was searched.

The search turned up a baggie of suspected methamphetamine in the area where Pettry was sitting. A field test was positive for methamphetamine.

Pettry was charged with possession of a controlled substance, as well as failure to appear on the previous charge.

Ryan

On Monday at 10:41 p.m., police went to Wal-Mart to check out a person who was inside but had previously been banned and warned not to return.

A Wal-Mart employee said saw Latosha Ryan inside and knew she was banned from the store. The officer stopped Ryan as she was leaving the building.

She voluntarily showed the contents of her purse to the officer and he found an unmarked pill bottle containing a scheduled controlled prescription.

Ryan was eventually able to show she had a prescription for the substance but since it wasn't in the original container she was cited for a misdemeanor charge under the prohibited acts section of the controlled substance statutes.

She is also charged with possession of amphetamines, a felony, according to sheriff’s records. Her bond is set at $10,000.
