Ryan Walsh was convicted Monday of possession of meth and burglary and sentenced to 3-6 years in prison.

Walsh, 31, was also sentenced for the burglary of Kohler’s Trailer Sales in May 2013. He was part of a group of young North Platte men who were rounded up after that burglary. Most of them were also charged with meth use and distribution.

Walsh entered treatment late last year, but disappeared in January. He failed to appear for sentencing on March 10, but police caught up with him 10 days later as he got out of his car in the 2400 block of East Second. Police also found what appeared to be meth in a plastic baggie he was carrying.

In court Monday, Walsh pled no contest to meth possession. In exchange, the county attorney dropped two other charges of drug possession.

Defense attorney Russ Jones told the court that a plea agreement was reached and Walsh waived his right to a presentence investigation.

Jones said Walsh has been cooperative with the court and understood that probation was not an option.

The county attorney agreed that Walsh has been cooperative recently and is again taking advantage of programs to help with his drug and alcohol addictions.

Rowlands agreed that Walsh is making progress, but sentenced him to 3-6 years for burglary and 1-3 for possession. The sentences will run at the same time, and Walsh also receives 67 days credit for the time he’s served.

“Try to take advantage of every treatment plan available to you and turn your life around,” Rowlands told him.
