The Great Plains Regional Medical Center is offering a 5K training program for beginners, in conjunction with the Platte River Fitness Series.
The 12-week program will help participants commit to regular exercise, a critical component in a healthy lifestyle. The program is free, hospital spokeswoman Megan Hanson said.
Individuals will participate in a group session once a week and receive a workout for the remaining days.
Group sessions will be led by Platte River Fitness Series director and certified fitness instructor Trudy Merritt of the North Platte Recreation Department.
Training programs are available for both walkers and runners.
Hanson said the benefits include:
• Guidance and encouragement on how to get fit.
• Help in developing healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
• Great Plains tee-shirt.
• Waived 5K registration for the Upstage Downtown Fun 5K
Training begins the week of May 13 at the North Platte Recreation Center. Two sessions are available: Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 a.m.
