John Davidson to perform in North PlatteTell North Platte what you think

John Davidson, a versatile performer with 50 years in show business, will perform a variety of music and comedy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at North Platte’s downtown Neville Center for the Performing Arts.

Davidson’s program will include love songs, a John Denver medley on guitar, a Kenny Rogers medley, a banjo medley of 1930s songs, a humorous choreographed rap song, and several comedy spots, including Sixty Sucks, Wall Street Blues, I Still Gotta Be Your Superman, Senior Marriage and Getting Old.

Davidson is well-known for his television career, when he hosted his own talk show, the John Davidson Show; That’s Incredible; The New Hollywood Squares; One Hundred Thousand Dollar Pyramid; and The Kraft Summer Music Hall.

He also appeared 80 times on The Tonight Show, more than any other singer. And, he starred in a Hallmark Hall of Fame version of the Fantastiks. He also played the part of Sally Field’s husband in The Girl with Something Extra.  

This is the last concert in the 2013-14 series from the North Platte Concert Association.

Admission to the concert is with a season membership in the North Platte Concert Association. Those who purchase memberships for the upcoming 2014-15 series will be admitted free to the Davidson concert.

Davidson has appeared in several Broadway productions and received a Theater Guild Award for his portrayal of Curly in a Broadway Revival of Oklahoma. Several years ago, he starred in State Fair and recently he played the Wizard of Oz in a national tour of Wicked.

In regional theater productions, Davidson has played leading roles in The Music Man, 110 in the Shade, Camelot, Carousel, I Do, I Do, Will Rogers Follies, Shenandoah, Man of La Mancha, Ragtime, and Bully, a one-man show about Teddy Roosevelt.

His feature film career began with two Walt Disney musicals, The Happiest Millionaire and The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band.

He was in Airport 80, Edward Scissorhands and The Squeeze.

Don and Phyllis Swigart, long-time members of the concert association, are helping sponsor the John Davidson concert.

Upcoming concerts in the 2014-15 series will feature The Limelighters on Oct. 9, Ben Gulley on Nov. 7, the Glenn Miller Band on March 26, Susan Werner in April, and Cornet Chop Suey on May 15.

Season memberships are available from the secretary of the North Platte Concert Association, Pat Hoban, 1412 West Fourth, North Platte, NE 69101. Her phone is 308-534-4699.

Until June 1, memberships are $45 for adults and $90 for families. After June 1, adult memberships will be $50 and family memberships will be $100. Student memberships are $15.

Special patron memberships are also available. All those who buy memberships for the 2014-15 series will be eligible for six prizes to drawn during intermission.
