The marks of a trash can near a burlgarized garage led police to the stolen goods Sunday, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

Around 9:15 a.m. on Sunday a police officer went to a house in the 700 block of S. Walnut to investigate a reported burglary.

A 35-year-old man said that Erik Brian, 29, forced his way in to the garage through a window and stole three shotguns, a rifle and numerous tools, Brown said.

Shoe prints were found at the scene that linked Brian to the crime, as well as drag marks from a trash receptacle that he used to load and haul away the stolen property, Brown said.

Brown said the drag marks led to a garage in the 400 block of East D, where the empty trash can was found, as well as the stolen property inside the garage and house.

Brian was arrested, transported and jailed for felony burglary and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, because he has a prior felony conviction.

In court Monday, Brian's bond was set at $50,000.
