Sheila L. Wondercheck
A North Platte woman was charged with a felony Thursday after she allegedly stole three inexpensive things from Fantasy Gifts in North Platte.
North Platte police investigator John Deal said Shelia Wondercheck stole less than $20 in merchandise from the store. But Wondercheck has two previous theft convictions, which makes the third time a felony.
According to a police report, at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday, an officer went to Fantasy Gifts to check out a report of shoplifting that occurred previously. An employee reviewed surveillance video that showed a woman take three items from the shelf, conceal them in her purse, then leave without paying.
A man accompanied the woman and it appeared he was acting as a lookout, Deal said.
The investigating officer reviewed the surveillance footage and recognized the man as Monty Manary, and learned that Manary was living with Wondercheck.
The officer contacted Wondercheck and Manary on Thursday in the 1500 block of N. Sherman. He confirmed that Wondercheck was on video taking the items and Manary acted as the lookout, according to the police report.
Wondercheck was previously charged with shoplifting in September, with theft in April 2013 and with shoplifting in October 2012, according to sheriff’s records.
This time, she was charged with felony theft and taken to jail, where she was processed and released, according to jail records.
Manary was cited for misdemeanor theft, Deal said.
