Nathan D. Wheeler
A North Platte teenager was jailed Tuesday, charged with attempted first-degree assault and criminal mischief.
Nathen Wheeler, 19, allegedly rammed his car into another teenager’s car at Cody Park, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.
Brown said around 9:40 p.m. on April 19, police went to the area of 16th and Custer on the report of a red Firebird ramming into a Nissan that was occupied by three juveniles while in the park.
A 17-year-old male driver of the Nissan Maxiam said that an argument ensued between he and the two other male juveniles in his car and the driver and passenger of the Firebird. The conflict continued near the Cody Park concession stand, Brown said.
At one point, the 17-year-old Nissan driver and a Firebird passenger got out and argued, then the 17-year-old got back in the Nissan. When he shut his door, Wheeler revved the Firebird and backed into the driver’s door of the Nissan, nearly striking the 17-year-old, Brown said.
Damage to the Maxima amounted to about $3,500. The Firebird then left the area.
Police located Wheeler Monday and questioned him, Brown said.
On Tuesday, the officer determined there was probable cause to arrest him and charge him with attempted first-degree assault and felony criminal mischief.
He was transported to the Lincoln County jail. Bond is set at $25,000.
