Rural Maxwell woman found dead in barnTell North Platte what you think

The Lincoln County Sheriff is investigating the death of Heidi Craig, 52, who was pinned Saturday beneath a round hay bale in a barn south of Maxwell.

The Lincoln County Dispatch Center received a 911 call around 10:05 p.m. Saturday about the calamity.

When first responders arrived, they found that Craig’s husband had removed the bale from her body, but Mrs. Craig was already dead, according to a sheriff's statement.

Deputies secured the scene and began an extensive investigation.

Foul play was not immediately suspected, but the active investigation continues. An autopsy was ordered and the results are expected by the end of the week, Sheriff Jerome Kramer said Tuesday.

Kramer said the hay was for horses and stored inside the barn. It appears that an upper bale fell when the bale below it was too small to support it. The bottom bale was being fed to the horses.
