George Schere, the principal of Jefferson Elementary, has resigned to become an administrator with the Hastings Public Schools.

Denise DiGiovanni will take the reins at Jefferson for the 2014-15 school year, Superintendent Marty Bassett said. DiGiovanni has been a teacher, High Ability Learning director,  instructional coach and the principal at Hall Elementary.

She also has experience at Jefferson, where she was an instructional coach at one time.

Schere and his family wanted to move closer to family in the eastern part of Nebraska, North Platte Schools Associate Superintendent Tami Eshleman said.

Shere has been the principal at Lincoln Elementary as well as Jefferson during his five-year career in North Platte. He arrived in 2009.

Eisenhower principal Mary Derby will serve as Hall principal. Derby has previous experience leading two school buildings. She was principal of both McDonald and Buffalo for one year.

The North Platte Public Schools administrative team is now complete for 2014-15, Eshleman said.

"The district is excited about the opportunities that await students and families next year," she said.
