An accusation of personal harassment has led to charges of welfare fraud against a North Platte man.

At around 4 p.m. on Monday, officers from the NPPD responded to the 300 block of West Seventh on a harassment complaint, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

A 31-year-old man complained that Barry R. Allen, 47, was calling and harassing him about living in his rental.

Police investigators learned that Allen had an active felony Lincoln County warrant for welfare fraud.

Allen was arrested and jailed.

Allen allegedly filed for unemployment benefits when he was working, between April 13 and Aug. 10, 2013, he allegedly received $5,072 in unemployment payments, Deputy County Attorney Jennifer Wellan said.

The Nebraska Department of Labor referred the case to the county attorney’s office, Wellan said.

Allen is held on a $10,000 bond.
