North Platte police Sgt. Jeff Foote was honored Tuesday by Mayor Dwight Livingston for instrumental efforts in saving the life of a North Platte man who was not breathing when Foote responded to an emergency 911 call.

The emergency call came around 5 p.m. on Feb. 9 from the 200 block of S. Willow.

When Foote arrived, he promptly called an ambulance and administered emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Livingston said.

The ambulance crew arrived, set up an IV, intubated and shocked the man, who started breathing again and eventually recovered.

Livingston cited the work of the ambulance crew -- paramedics Tim Anderson, Blake Anthony, Shane Butterfield, TJ Williams and EMT-basic Clayton Manning.

Fire Chief Dennis Thompson also credited the work of the crew, who are also firefighters, as well as Foote.

“If not for Officer Foote, this individual wouldn’t be with us,” Thompson told the audience assembled at City Hall for the city council meeting. “He is alive and well today, thanks to all of their efforts.”

Emergency responders routinely enter precarious, unforgiving situations, Thompson noted.

Foote was officially presented with a certificate of excellence for his heroics.
