The North Platte High School boys' soccer team just couldn't find the back of the net on Tuesday when the Bulldogs fell 2-0 to Hastings at Madison Middle School.

NPHS coach Danny Whitney said that he was pleased with how his team played against the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference tournament champions. But the only thing it didn't do was finish shots.

"I thought we did a very good job defending the ball and getting opportunities," he said. "We just didn't find the net."

Hastings (9-2) did in the 28th minute when Rudy Escobar shot and beat North Platte goalie Dakota Guenin to give the Tigers the lead.

In the 56th minute, Hastings scored again when Philip Pedroza headed in a corner kick from Albert Pedroza to make it 2-0.

North Platte (2-7) couldn't get the ball past Tiger goalie Christian Lomax after that and Hastings came away with the road victory.

Whitney said that it has been a frustrating stretch for the Bulldogs. NPHS has lost its last seven matches after winning its first two of the season. But Tuesday's loss showed that they aren't far away from being a formidable team.

"It shows where we're at," the first year coach said. "A break or a missed opportunity are big in soccer. Hastings got a couple of opportunities and they capitalized on them."
