Bankers to students: Save moneyTell North Platte what you think

Instilling the habit of saving money -- that's the goal of NebraskaLand National Bank’s effort to visit classrooms and teach children to save.

On April 16, bankers will visit the fifth-grade classrooms at Cody Elementary from 1-1:30 p.m. to give lessons on the importance of creating savings habits.

The effort is part of the American Bankers’ Association national campaign. NebraskaLand National Bank dedicates the month of April to the Teach Children to Save program.

The lessons bankers teach to local students highlight basic savings principles, including budgeting, how interest works, needs vs. wants and more. Hands-on activities, worksheets and learning videos provide the students with an approach.

NebraskaLand National Bank has received the Outstanding Bank Participation Award by the Nebraska Bankers’ Association for service in educating consumers about personal finance management. The bank will continue to reach out to local schools throughout April in the communities it serves, spokeswoman Danielle Nichols said.
