Charles Aufdenkamp moved to the third round of the Nebraska State Geographic Bee recently, competing as a semifinalist in the state bee sponsored by Google and Plum Creek.

Bees were held in schools in grades 4-8 students to determine each school’s winner.

School winners then took a qualifying test that was submitted to the National Geographic Society. The society invited students with the top 100 scores in each of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Department of Defense Dependents Schools and U.S. territories to compete at the state level.

The 2014 Nebraska State Geographic Bee was held April 4 at the University of Nebraska Omaha in the Milo Bail Student Center. Aufdenkamp was eliminated after answering eight questions.

The National Geographic Bee competition is now in its 26th year.

The state winner received $100, the “Complete National Geographic on DVD” and a trip to Washington D.C. to represent Nebraska in the National Geographic Bee finals to be held at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 19-21.
