Pennies at courthouse, 2 p.m. Monday

The fifth grade class of Wallace public schools has challenged Lincoln County residents to donate pennies in memory of the children who were lost during the holocaust of World War II.

The goal is to raise 1.5 million pennies – one for each child that was reportedly lost in the Nazi’s effort to exterminate the Jews.

Pennies can be donated at the information desk-switchboard of the Lincoln County Courthouse. The deadline is April 4.

The students, who recently studied the holocaust in school, would also like letters from people whose families were connected to holocaust victims or survivors.

The pennies will be given to a charity that helps children, organizers say.

Letters can also be put in the basket at the courthouse, or sent to fifth-grade teacher Kelly Smith, 151 N. Wallace Road, Wallace, NE 69169.
