Lehmkuhler began her employment on April 25, 2011. She is a reliable, efficient, hard-working employee who co-workers say is a pleasure to work with, Police Chief Mike Swain said Friday in the announcement.

Also, Police Officer Scott Baker has been named best dressed officer of 2013. Baker has served with the department for 13 years; he is currently assigned to patrol.

Lehmkuhler

Recently, Lehmkuhler received a call from a concerned citizen about a cat on her roof. The complainant was concerned the cat would die in the cold weather. During off-duty hours, Dixie climbed the woman’s roof, rescued the cat and took it to the shelter, Swain said in the announcement.

“She goes above and beyond to assist the public,” the announcement said. “She is very conscientious about the quality of her work and maintaining a professional environment at the Animal Shelter, the primary contact for most visitors and volunteers and represents the department well,”

Lehmkuhler has a very big heart for animals and she provides extra care for young or sick animals by taking them home or providing one-on-one care in her office.

“Running an animal control unit requires the teamwork of all our employees and many dedicated volunteers,” the announcement said. “Dixie sets a good example for others and she puts forth extra effort to ensure the animals and customers are cared for properly. Dixie is a tremendous asset to this department, to our city and to her profession as an Animal Shelter attendant; she is most deserving of this award.”

Best dressed

Each year, the North Platte Police Department holds inspections of uniformed officers to ensure they maintain a high standard of uniform dress and overall appearance. All uniformed officers compete for the honor.
